This is a beautiful and rare Americana brilliant hand-cut crystal flask. Yes, a flask.
In the 18th century, most revered cut glass makers were in Europe.
The 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia changed all that and marked the beginning of a new era in American decorative arts history. A major attraction at the Exposition was an exhibit that featured the best of what had come to be known as American rich-cut glass.
Artisans began to create the most delicate and awe-inspiring patterns on a variety of wares, officially ushering in the Brilliant Period of American cut glass production. Intricate geometric patterns that reflected a rainbow of colors were applied to everything imaginable, Including the flask.
This one has a a screw-off top and a criss-cross pattern with an octagon shape.
It measures 5" tall and 35" wide Absolutely no chips and in excellent condition.
What a fantastic gift this would make!
